Les Petites is a blend of two distinctive grapes: Petit Verdot and Petite Sirah, both of which have their origins in France. Petit Verdot hails from Bordeaux, where it is often used in blends to add color, tannin, and a deep, rich flavor.

Petite Sirah, or Durif as it is called in France, was originally cultivated in the Rhône Valley, but it has become virtually extinct there today. While Durif has largely disappeared from its homeland, it thrives in other regions, particularly California, where it is known for producing wines with deep color, bold structure, and a rich, fruity profile.

The name "The Petites" hints at the small size of the berries that make up this blend. Both Petit Verdot and Petite Sirah produce smaller berries, which play a crucial role in the winemaking process. Smaller berries have a higher ratio of skins to juice, which means more skin contact during fermentation.

This results in wines with an intense dark color due to a higher concentration of anthocyanins—the pigments responsible for the deep, inky hue. Furthermore, the increased skin contact leads to more tannin extraction, contributing to the wine's bold structure and rich intensity. This makes Les Petites a wine that not only looks striking in the glass but also offers a concentrated, full-bodied profile that lingers on the palate.
